About Us
The Smallest School in the Fairbanks N.S.B. School District
Salcha Elementary is located approximately 36 miles southeast of Fairbanks on the Richardson Highway. It is the smallest school in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. Our enrollment for the 2008-2009 school year was 95 students in grades K-6, with a regular staff of a principal, six certified teachers and seven classified employees. We also have a librarian, a behavior aide specialist, and five itinerant teachers who provide our students with speech & language, physical therapy, occupational therapy, counseling and instrumental music. In addition to this, we have used Federal Title I funds to hire a part time Title I teacher to enhance our math curriculum.
As a Title I school, Salcha Elementary is able to provide additional academic services to our students who have been identified as being below proficient in the areas of reading, writing and math.
Salcha Elementary sponsored an after school Homework Helpers/Study Hall program throughout the school year. Other after school activities included: cross-country running and skiing, soccer, drama, choir chimes and i-movie.
Salcha provides a full range of curricular activities with an emphasis upon basics. Each of our classrooms is a self-contained unit; however, because of our flexibility, we are able to be creative in our scheduling, maximizing the expertise of our staff to the fullest and effectively utilizing all areas of our building. As a result, our students have many opportunities for small group or individualized instructional time.
All teachers and paraprofessionals at Salcha Elementary have achieved federally "highly Qualified" status as required under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) law. If you have any questions regarding the qualifications of our staff, please feel free to talk with the principal.
